Experience
I was a student tutor at UC San Diego in creative writing and also helped my peers learn how to write clear, concise essays. At UC San Diego I spent four years in intensive writing workshops including english grammar, journalism, personal narrative essays, travel writing, poetry, short fiction and publishing. I also took American, English and Spanish/Latin American literature courses. These workshops and courses taught me how to think critically about how we use language and writing to express our experiences, ideas and identity. I want to be a tutor because I love teaching and helping others learn how to express themselves through writing. My first few days in Italy, with a very basic knowledge of Italian, were alienating and I felt trapped by a desire to express myself in this new language, but not knowing how. I want to help people who are learning english as a second language to not experience this feeling and learn how to express themselves better in conversation and in writing.

Hi I'm Lauren! I'm from Honolulu, Hawaii but went to university in San Diego California and just recently graduated in June. I am currently living in Florence, Italy for nine months on a sports visa, playing water polo for Rari Nantes Florentia. I love reading and writing, especially poetry. I intend to spend my time here learning Italian, playing water polo, teaching english and finally writing enough poetry to eventually publish my own book!
